Who Goes on a WanderList Tour?
Anyone looking for an authentic travel experience. Our tours are created for everyone, since age is a state of mind. If you want a niche, quaint, intrinsically off-the-beaten-track experience with like-minded folks, then join WanderList Tours!
How Large are the Groups?
Although we have one tour with a maximum number of 40 (Oktoberfest...not running this year), we keep our groups between 12 and 35 travelers.
Why? We’ve found that it’s easier to create cohesion, use public transportation, better manage activities, and guarantee high-quality hotels with smaller groups.
What About Privacy?
Our prices are based on twin/double occupancy. If you are traveling as a couple, you don’t need to worry about not rooming together or paying supplementary charges. However, if you’re traveling with friends and prefer triples/quads, let us know and we can set it up. If you want a single, we can do that, too.
What Are Hotels Like?
You spend approximately 40% of your time in your room or hotel, so don’t underestimate how important it is. We look for accommodations that are central (yes, actually central), culturally or historically relevant, have character and personality, are a bit edgy and exude seduction, and are visually stunning (à la medieval castles and villas).
Where you lay your head is just as important as where you travel. With WanderList, you’ll always stay at the best hotels.
What Does Price Include?
The better question would be what does the tour price NOT include, because we include pretty much everything to ensure you get the highest-quality trip for the fairest price.
The tour price includes:
- full daily breakfasts (meaning hot breakfasts, not just carbs and the rare hard-boiled egg),
- twin/double rooming,
- all on-tour transportation (trains, ferries, buses, and travel cards if listed),
- group dinners and lunches, when applicable, tour guides,
- museum passes, when applicable,
- full-time tour leader, and tons of built-in goodies – all listed under each itinerary.
Don’t worry about extra budgeting for optionals, because we’ve already added the best activities right in. We even include gratuities!
Do I Need to Budget for Tipping?
WanderList tips all the drivers, all the guides, and all the restaurants. Experience has taught us that tipping is simply the easy, decent, and respectable thing to do. And believe us, they love it, too. If you want to tip on top of that (say, in person), don’t feel obligated to do so. The only thing we need from you in terms of tipping is to show your tour leader your utmost appreciation at the end of the tour.
Where Can I Get Travel Insurance?
You are required to purchase trip insurance, and everyone must provide proof that they have it on the first day of travel. Without it, you will not be able to join the tour. There are several places to purchase travel insurance, but we find World Nomads to be extremely easy to use. World Nomads covers everything you may need, including trip cancellation, medical costs, lost luggage, adventure activities, and tons else.
What Documents Do I Need to Bring?
You will need your passport. Please make sure it’s valid for at least 6 months after the end of the tour.
If you are an American citizen but use a passport from another country, it is especially important that you contact the relevant Embassy or Consulate to ensure your bases are covered. You may have different entry requirements, as well as different passport and visa requirements.
How Do I Book?
Once you have found your perfect tour, reserve your spot by paying the 72-hour risk-free deposit of $150. You’ll see more information on the individual Journey pages. The remaining balance is due at least 45 days prior to departure (the actual date itself is shown at the bottom of each tour page).
Can I Cancel?
Yes, you can cancel. But know you can always use your deposit toward any other tour, present or future. It has no expiration date. If you need to cancel your tour and have made payments toward the trip, here are the cancellation fees:
- Cancel more than 60 days out from the start of the tour: you will be refunded 100% of the total payment.
- Cancel anywhere from 59-30 days out: you will be refunded 50% of the total payment.
- Cancel less than 30 days out: there is 0% refund.
